Each surgery day starts with a ritual: hands and forearms are meticulously scrubbed, while some "water-cooler" conversation flows among my surgical team. Here are a few thoughts, topics, and trends that were on my mind this week @TheScrubSink.
1. Segway, makers of that giant thing that airport cops and tour groups ride, is releasing their next big flop. These Drift e-skates are the answer to the question nobody was asking, which is: "Why can't they find a way to make those Heely wheeled shoes even more dangerous?"
2. The New Yorker's Nicola Twilley explains the complex neuroscience of pain in this fascinating article. Some great insights into understanding pain in both its acute and chronic forms, both of which I help patients deal with every day in my practice.
3. This weekend marks the culmination of the Tour de France, cycling grandest stage, and the next two days will decide the champion. The current race leader and the defending victor are both on the British cycling team Sky, making for some potential infighting. Tomorrow's mountain stage, climbing some massive Pyrenean passes, and Saturday's time trial, will certainly make for some good spectating.
